Please join us on Saturday, October 27, 2018, 7:30 - 9:30 pm in UC Irvine's Humanities Instructional Building (HIB) 100 for night of traditional Persian musical concert by Nariman Ensemble and live painting by Dr. Noureddin Zarrinkelk, the father of Iranian animation and the artist-in-residence at UCI Jordan Center for Persian Studies and Culture.

Kamancheh: Naghmeh Sarang

At this concert, poems of Mawlana Rumi, "The Story of the Repentent Harper" or "The Story of Hazrat Pir Changi," will be sung by Mrs. Shayandokht Abedinimanesh. Mr. Ali Pajooheshgar has composed this concert and will play the Oud and also will narrate the poems of Rumi for the audience. Simultaneously, Professor Noureddin Zarrinkelk (the father of Iranian animation) will depict Rumi's poems via his paintings and calligraphy. The special guest artist Mr. Mehrdad Arabifard is the percussionist and Ms. Naghmeh Sarang is the Kamancheh player.

The Golden Age of Animation in Iran

Nouredin Zarrinkelk studied animation in Ghent, Belgium and Jiry Trnka studios in Czech Republic. He has also founded animation schools. His lecture will cover the history of modern Iranian animation and include a few of his films. Watch the lecture.


Mr. Zarrinkelk with have copies of a few of his book available for sale after the event and he has kindly agreed to sign copies

Golden Age of Animation in Iran

Join us on Saturday, November 21st, 4-6 p.m. in Humanities Gateway McCormick Hall for a screening of short films by Noureddin Zarrinkelk, the Father of Iranian Animation, and Jordan Center's artist-in-residence.

Noureddin Zarrinkelk is a renowned Iranian animator, concept artist, editor, graphic designer, illustrator, layout artist, photographer, script writer and sculptor.
